TRIP AVAILABILITY
If this trip seems right for you then we encourage you to book early and secure your place with a deposit.  As a small group tour, space is limited. To ensure your place, please check trip availability at your earliest convenience.

FELLOW TRAVELLERS
This tour is exclusively for solo travellers.  The age range is 40 years and over. This is small group tour with a maximum group size of 12 travellers. The tour is led by a professional ranger guide.

It’s most likely to depart with a group of 10 to 14 passengers.

TOUR PACE [3 OUT OF 5]
Basically any fit and healthy person can participate. Most days are walking around 12-14 kilometres in distance.

If you can walk upwards of 14 kilometres or more in a day, carrying a lightweight day pack you will find the walking activity totally achievable. The minimum requirements to participate are being able to carry a 5 kilogram backpack (that holds your lunch, water, camera, rain jacket plus a few other personal effects).

You also need to be aware that while we typically walk on well forged walking tracks, the quality and the degree of difficulty on these tracks varies a lot. You may find the tracks rocky and “lumpy” underfoot, soft and sandy or muddy and slippery. The prevailing weather can make a track that is typically dry and firm wet and muddy.

You will also, at times, find there is the need to be able to negotiate obstacles such as fallen trees, or sections of scree, or steep steps. None of these would be enough to preclude a healthy and able-bodied individual but they can challenge. So please come along with not only the right footwear and raingear and clothing, but also the right frame of mind.

MEALS
It’s regular that our trips include welcome dinners and farewell dinners for our groups. In addition, we include other group dining experiences to ensure that everyone can enjoy the benefit of travelling and dining as a group.  There’s nothing better than to share a meal with new friends and discuss the day’s adventures.

Please be sure to advise us at the time of booking of any special dietary requirements. We always do our best to accommodate special diet needs and in most cases, special dietary needs can be met. However, in some destinations the variety of choice for certain special diets may be limited. If you are concerned please check with us before you book.

TRANSPORT
Transport is by private minibus.

PROFESSIONAL WILDERNESS GUIDE
This is a private group tour with professional wilderness guide. Your guide is there to assist with group arrangements and to act as the liaison for all tour services.

THE WEATHER
Tasmania is located between Latitudes 40 and 43, with the island’s temperature and weather moderated by the surrounding oceans. The cool temperate climate offers four distinct seasons which can interchange on any given day of the year. Summer inland temperatures average 24 degrees with nights averaging a relatively cool 8 degrees. Rainfall in Tasmania is far higher than any mainland counterpart and averages 2700 millimetres on the west coast and central highlands.

Tasmania’s alpine regions can experience heavy rainfalls and temperatures below zero degrees in summer. For group safety and comfort, having adequate gear and equipment for the local conditions ensures accessibility to the wilderness is enjoyed. Tasmanian Expeditions has a specialist gear list available that details what clothing and equipment is required for each of our Tasmanian adventures.

MOBILE PHONE COVERAGE
Visitors who are with Telstra will get some reception on the Tasman Peninsular some of the other areas during the walk, so you can receive text messages, check emails and make phone calls at least once a day. Anyone who is on a network other than Telstra is unlikely to get any phone reception.  You can pick up a Telstra sim card at your local Officeworks and other retailers, then top up as little as $10 so you have some mobile phone reception when visit Tasmania.

WHAT YOU CARRY

Before you travel you must contact your bank to request the details of their insurer and the level of cover included with your credit card insurance policy.  You must also request the contact information for the insurer while travelling.  For all credit card policies be sure to determine the credit card provider requirements that qualify you for cover.  Example: a minimum purchase value on the card for your holiday expenses.

DISCLAIMER
We have taken great care to prepare and publish the trip information and in good faith we believe it to be accurate.  However as is the nature of travel, plans may need to change from time to time and often unexpectedly.

If trip details need to change due to circumstances beyond our control in most cases your final documentation issued prior to your departure will be updated.  However, it’s also possible that you may encounter itinerary changes while on holiday. It could be related to unexpected weather or road conditions or another example could be the unannounced closure of a facility such as a restaurant we planned to use. In these cases our ground operator for the holiday will make all best endeavours to provide an alternative of equivalent or similar standard.

At other times although not commonly, we may make itinerary changes after publishing the trip details on the website. This is usually directly related to enhancing the experience as a result of past traveller comments and from our own discoveries.
