Spanish Conquest for Single Travellers

A perfect mélange of the old and the new, Spain is a mecca for the single traveller. Set amidst a backdrop of stunning natural marvels, Spain is home to the largest number of World Heritage Cities. And don’t get us started on Spanish gastronomy; their food culture is uniquely their own.

Spain is as mysterious as it is vibrant – a perfect place to go tripping on holidays for singles. One can always lose themselves in the streets of Spain and find something breathtaking along the way. The people are warm and friendly, so even if you’re single, you will never feel lonely in Spain!

Madrid

Spain is blessed with charming cities, each with their own local flavor. Madrid, the capital of Spain, is a vivacious modern city with an unmistakable cosmopolitan vibe. But despite its modernity, Madrid is still able to preserve its artistic heritage. It offers a host of attractions to satiate your thirst for culture and the arts. And don’t forget to check out their pulsating nightlife!

Cordoba

Located in southern Spain, Cordoba was once a significant port city for the Romans in shipping olive oil, wine, and wheat to ancient Rome. Cordoba was later captured by the Moors who made it a capital of their Moorish kingdom.

Cordoba is a city festooned with many great architectural designs of the ancient time. One can’t help but marvel at the treasures of the city such as the Mezquita or the Great Mosque, which is said to be one of the biggest; the Alcazar, the roman mausoleum, and the church of Santa Marina de Aguas Santas, among others.

Toledo

They say Toledo is an overlooked Spanish gem. We’re not sure about it being overlooked, but this gem sparkles brightly above the Tagus River. Toledo emits an old-world vibe as it traces its roots back to the Roman occupation in 192BC. You can wander around and lose yourself in its windy, cobbled streets and medieval labyrinths. Or you can go on pilgrimage with other single travellers to some of Toledo’s religious edifices. Start at the Cathedral, which is the city’s centerpiece.

Granada

Granada was once a melting pot of cultures where Moors, Spaniards, and Africans gathered. As it was the last Muslim stronghold in the country, Moor influence is still very evident around the city – from the food, to the traditions, to its buildings. The Alhambra Palace, for instance, is a breathtaking architectural wonder. This mighty 14th century fortress rests at the foot of Sierra Nevada and watches over city and plains like a sentinel.

Granada is both historical and exciting with an abundance of interesting attractions around the city. Some visit for the cuisine, others for the culture, but most people come to simply experience everything that the city has to offer. Many artists and poets were said to have been inspired by the beauty of Granada.

Ronda

Ronda can be summed up in one word: majestic. Perched on a very mountainous area in Andalucía is Ronda – a city frozen in time. Visitors from the world over have been enthralled by this majestic city, as it offers magnificent panorama which is perfect for singles travel. One such fan was the American writer Ernest Hemingway, who spent many of his summers in Ronda writing about its beauty.

The city features several attractions that can’t be found anywhere in the world. For instance, the remains of prehistoric settlements that date back to the Neolithic Age can be found around the city, including the rock painting of Cueva de la Pileta. One can also experience the history of bullfighting by visiting Plaza de Toro museum, which is the birthplace of modern bullfighting.

Arcos De La Frontera

Arcos de la Frontera is almost like out of a fairy tale. With sandstone castles and whitewashed houses on top of a rock, it is one of the most extraordinary places you will ever see. No wonder it’s declared as a national historic-artistic monument.

Arcos sits atop a sandstone ridge with impressive vistas, dramatic architecture, and an enigmatic old town vibe. It’s perfect for culture buffs, and an ideal place to travel for singles. You can embark on a walking tour on Calle Cuna and Calle Maldonaldo, feast on local cuisine in Tapas bars on Callejon de las Monjas, or swim in Lago de Arcos in the summer – the activities are endless!

Seville

The fastest way to anyone’s heart is through the stomach. And when you’re in Seville, you’re in luck. Aside from being southern Spain’s cultural and financial capital, Seville is also considered as a gastronomic hub. Food is said to be one of its main cultural attractions – from tortas, to torrijas, yemas, mantecados and of course, Tapas!

One can never deny the beauty of Seville. The city is filled with numerous picturesque buildings, spectacular monuments and parks, like the Cathedral, the Alcazar, the Palace San Telmo, Parque de Maria Luisa, and the Gardens of Murillo, to name a few.

Barcelona

Touted as Spain’s most European city due to its innovative personality, Barcelona is undoubtedly one of the best that Spain has to offer. The capital city of Catalonia is a city of contrasts. Barcelona celebrates joie de vivre and it screams exuberance, but at the same time it has an aura of mystery due to its centuries of rich history.

If Barcelona had to have a nickname, it would be Art. This city is a perfect place for all the art lovers with its museums, theatres, and art galleries. You can meet with other single people of the same interest and visit the Picasso Museum, The  Gaudi, and the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona, to name a few. Or lose yourself in its streets and marvel at Barcelona’s breathtaking Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance monuments and architecture. Barcelona truly is a masterpiece!
