There are some important considerations before departing for travels to another country.

1. Immunisation
2. Preparing your travel medical kit
3. Knowing the risks and regulations.

Before travelling to a new country we urge you to visit your medical practitioner or travel health centre for professional advice about medical considerations.

1. Are there any compulsory immunisations?
2. What precautionary (voluntary) immunisations should I consider?

It's handy to take a basic medical kit with you. Handy supplies include:

  • antiseptic
  • bandaids
  • bandage
  • sterile needles
  • tweezers
  • Swiss Army knife
  • insect repellent
  • water purifier / iodine tablets
  • thermometer

Plus consider these medications:

  • analgesics (paracetemol etc)
  • antinauseant / motion sickness
  • antimalarials (discuss with medical professional)
  • antidiarrheal (Imodium, Lomotil, Pepto-Bismol)
  • a broad spectrum antibiotic
  • rehydration salts (Gastrolyte sachets are great!)
  • antifungal cream
  • antihistamine
  • topical antibiotic cream
  • sunscreen
  • altitude sickness (Diamox)
  • usual prescription and non-prescription medications used regularly

Seek medical advice for all prescribed medicines.
