REVIEWS

"The trip to Longreach was amazing .There were so many interesting things to see that I never knew about. The visits to the outback stations were so lovely .I would really urge anyone to visit this part of the world."

Cathy, 69 yrs, Sydney, NSW

'I have just done my first holiday with Encounter Travel - Outback Longreach Explorer. What an awesome holiday. We saw so many and varied things and had a true Australian Outback Experience with the people, their stories and the landscape. The places we visited were varied and all had something interesting. The holiday was jam packed with things to do but we also had a nice amount of downtime to explore on our own or rest if we wished. This tour was absolutely fabulous and for a city girl was really interesting to see what the Outback of Australia is really like. I highly recommend this tour.'

Longreach – Winton - Longreach

Head west to the land of the dinosaurs to visit Winton for a full day out to the central area of Queensland that abounds with early Australian folklore and history.  It was in this area that Banjo Paterson wrote his famous poem about the swagman and the jolly jumbuck and “Waltzing Matilda” was first heard in a pub in Winton.

Exploring Winton features a visit to The Australian Age of Dinosaurs Musuem including the more recently opened Dinosaur Canyon. The museum is home to the world’s largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils, and not surprisingly, it is also the site of Australia’s largest fossil preparation laboratory.  Join a guided tour of the laboratory and collection room, and Dinosaur Canyon.

Winton is also home to the Waltzing Matilda Centre, and we make a visit to learn the story behind Australia’s unofficial national anthem; the only museum dedicated to a song. We then make our way back to Longreach and tonight, the group is escorted to dine out in town at a local restaurant.
